Smashing Pumpkins - Cherub Rock
In case you didn’t know, the proper way to listen to this track is to turn up the clean intro to the volume you are used to hearing music, and then get completely obliterated when the song hits.
Say what you will about Billy Corgan but this album is fucking rad. The balls-to-the-wall guitar riffs, Jimmy Chamberlin’s ridiculous drumming, Butch Vig’s insane production. And it’s dynamic as hell, thanks to it being recorded in 1993 and not >1998. You feel every kick and snare hit like it’s actual drums being played, quiet parts actually get quiet, and loud parts scramble your brain—the way it was meant to be, damn it (p.s. get off my lawn).
I’ve been listening to this pretty steadily for about six months.
